E - The Power of Energy
F - The Power of Flexibility
G - The Power of Gravity
A is for Awareness.
Awareness is the essential
connection to all aspects of Self, Soul and Spirit. It is the
key to the Power of Your Soul.
The first principle of the
ancient wisdom of Huna states: "The World Is What You Think
It Is." If your Awareness is limited, your World will be
limited, too. Greater Awareness creates greater Power of Choice.
You were born with the Power to Choose greater Awareness whenever
you want to or need to, simply by allowing your awareness to
open.
So, stop for a moment, right
now, and open your Awareness. Without changing anything else,
simply connect with your Awareness. Become Aware of your Awareness!
(Go ahead, I'll wait.)
Feel the shift?
Easy, yes?
Now, turn your attention
to the world around you. Without doing anything else,
simply extend your Awareness to your immediate environment
What do you notice now that
you weren't paying attention to before? For example, I have
just now become aware of the sounds of a neighbor's washing machine,
something I had "tuned out" before I opened my Awareness.
Take a moment to notice the sounds, smells and sights in your
environment. You may be surprised at how much sensory information
is available, even if you happen to be in a relatively peaceful
environment. Sense the temperature of the air against your skin
or the pressure of your legs against the chair. Simply notice
from the perspective of a "neutral observer."
Perhaps you are noticing
that as you open your Awareness to the outer world, your inner
state begins to shift. You may be feeling more relaxed, or more
alert, or both. As you open your Awareness, you free up Energy
that you unconsciously use to "filter out" information.
Ordinarily, we ignore huge amounts of sensory information.
It actually takes quite a lot of Energy to hold all that information
"at bay". By contrast, opening your Awareness is
a rather effortless activity which uses very little Energy. In
fact, you may notice it is more of an "allowing" than
a "doing." Of course, we don't need or want to be
aware of everything, 100% of the time. We can easily feel overwhelmed,
especially in today's "Information Age." But we don't
want our our Awareness filters stuck on "automatic"
100% of the time, either. It's good to keep our level of Awareness
flexible.
Now, let your Awareness explore
your inner environment for a moment, beginning with your body.
Notice how your tongue is resting inside your mouth. No need
to change a thing. You are just gathering information, simply
noticing. Feel whether your tongue is relaxed or tense. Feel
where your teeth press against it. Are your teeth clenched or
open? Notice if there is tension in your jaw muscles.
Now, begin to bring your Awareness inside. Take a moment to
notice your breath, not needing to change it in any way. Simply
follow the breath as you breathe normally. Allow the next few
breaths to lead your Awareness in and out. You can close your
eyes while you do this, if you wish.
Now, scan your body with
your Awareness and notice where you may be holding any tension
or discomfort. Again, not needing to change anything, simply
observing. Take a moment to do this, closing your eyes if you
wish.
Although my instructions
are to simply observe, you may notice that this, in itself, may
create changes without any effort on your part. This is because
Energy follows Awareness. One of the 7 principles of Huna states:
"Energy Flows Where Attention Goes." Tension and
discomfort are signals from your body that Energy is blocked
in that area. As your Awareness simply connects with the area,
Energy begins to flow there. As Energy begins to flow, you may
notice a change in sensation. Often tension and discomfort are
released. Sometimes, as Energy flows into a stagnant area, the
sensation of discomfort may temporarily increase. (If you have
ever had a foot or arm "fall asleep," you know how
that feels!)
Now, scan your body again,
only this time become aware of a place in your body that feels
like "Center" today. Find the place that feels like
"home base" for you right now. When you find it, invite
your Awareness to rest there for a moment. Draw a few deep breaths
in and out of this Center space. Notice how it feels to experience
your Awareness from your Center
Now, let's practice moving
your Awareness around your body. Focus your Awareness in your
right hand... Now your left hand... The top of your head...The
space between your eyebrows...Your throat...Your heart...Your
belly...Your hips...Your right knee...Your left knee...Your right
ankle...Your left ankle...Now focus on the soles of your feet...
Now, become aware of your connection to the Earth. Feel
how the force of Gravity is being experienced by your body at
this moment. Is there a way you could reposition your body right
now to come into better alignment with the Earth's Gravity?
Experiment and notice any changes.
Now, reorient your Awareness
to the outer world again. It may be interesting to notice how
your perception has changed since the beginning of this exercise.
You may have noticed that
I begin many of the the above instructions with the word "Now."
This is because opening your Awareness simultaneously focuses
your Awareness in the Present. The 3rd principle of Huna wisdom
states: "Now Is the Moment of Power." Your Awareness
is your connection with the Power of Now.
